Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds may not match patterns and colors, but they always match vibes.

After attending a production of the Broadway musical & Juliet on October 23, the couple looked like a pair of proud theater parents as they chatted with the cast backstage. Dressed in a white polka dot midi-dress, matching tights, and Mary Jane heels, Lively channeled the same twee aesthetic as her husband, who wore a patterned knit sweater-vest, tapered khaki pants, and his favorite dad glasses.

According to People, Lively surprised her husband with tickets to the musical in honor of Reynolds 48th birthday. “I don’t know what to get him for his birthday?” she reportedly told the cast. “What do you get him for his birthday? I know he loves musicals, I love musicals, the kids love musicals. So it felt like the right choice!”

The couple reportedly brought nine-year-old James, eight-year-old Inez, and five-year-old Betty along to the show, leaving their one-year-old son, Olin, at home. “The kids want to come tomorrow,” Lively reportedly told the cast of their reactions. “They think they’re coming back every day.”

I’d say it went over well with Reynolds as well, based on all the sweet photos from the outing. The couple happily spent time chatting with the cast and taking selfies with their fellow actors. “He was very, very sweet and generous with his time,” one source said of Reynolds. “Blake too—couldn’t have been kinder. They stayed a long time, and really made sure every actor felt seen and appreciated.”
